Treetop Adventures in Northern Ontario

By admin Friday, June 1, 2012

I found out last week that a group of my friends were going to Treetop Adventures and that I hadn’t been invited.  I assumed it was because most of my friends and family know me as a wimp when it comes to any kind of thrill seeking activity, and they are right, but I still wanted to at least go check it out.

It was a perfect early summer day when we arrived in Goulais River, about 20 minutes north of Sault Ste. Marie in Northern Ontario.  As we drove past Joseph’s Homestead Barn right off the Trans-Canada Highway I began to get a few butterflies in my stomach.  We had an 8 person group and they had all made me promise that I would go on at least the Big Zip, which is ironically the smaller of the two zip lines.

We decided to start on the Treetop Tour since it would take the longest and we had set out later than expected.  We knew Treetop Tours offered Moonlight Tours through the Treetops for those who are brave enough, but my group preferred to stick to daylight.

We went through the required ground level pre-climb bunny course and I thought it had gone well but reality kicked in as I stared up at one of the obstacles dangling 20 feet above the ground.  My knees knocking together must have got my friend’s attention since they circled around me and guided me towards the start to the Treetop Tour.

The next thing I knew I was in the midst of the swaying treetops, crossing a tire bridge, with a nice breeze in my hair and a smile on my face.  It felt amazing and my confidence grew.  As we finished the course (it takes around 3 hours) I felt like I had overcome some of my fear and was ready to take on the World!

I was giddy as we hiked up towards the zip lining area.  It took us a little over 10 minutes to get there because we were discussing who looked the funniest on the Treetop Tour and found ourselves coming to several complete stops to laugh about it.

When we got to the Mega Zip all of that confidence I had coming off the Treetop Tour disappeared in an instant.  I was staring at the fastest zip line in Ontario and the familiar hollow sound of knees knocking together once again got everyone’s attention.  The circle of friends closed in and before I knew it I was flying down the 1200 foot Mega Zip Line.  It was awesome and when I got to the platform at the bottom I wanted to do it again

I can’t think of many other places to start my summer of adventure than at Treetop Adventures. Time to search Summer Fun Guide so I can decide what adventure I can go on next with my new found confidence.  Looking forward to a great summer!
