Having worked as an educator, illustrator, and commercial artist throughout career, the artist’s unique style has also been shaped by her experiences studying and learning from master potters in Japan and the Sorbonne in France. Later on, she also taught at the Ontario College of Art & Design University for 20 years before retiring in 2003. Uman-Sures’ style has been refined through her lifelong study of art, and her large-scale abstract works incorporate elements of painting, illustration, and collage that invite the observer to consider the stories that lie behind the various figures portrayed in her works. This exhibition is a tribute to Uman-Sures by her son Ben Sures, to celebrate her creativity and recognize her work within the larger context of Canadian art. Admission to the exhibition is free.
