Description

There is nothing quite like the moments in our childhood when we first fall in love with a story, widen our world view and try to see things from someone else’s perspective. Reading lets our children occupy a different space; the middle of a story offers a multitude of possibilities, of journeys, imaginings and opportunities. Sharing, listening to, talking about and challenging our stories is transformative.

Research shows that regular readers:

  • experience better lives and contribute to their communities more;
  • are more than 3 times as likely as non-readers to visit museums, attend plays or concerts, and create artworks of their own;
  • are more likely to play sports, attend sporting events, or do outdoor activities, and;
  • are more than twice as likely as non-readers to volunteer or do charity work.
